Dreamers Everywhere

TODAY IS MEMORIAL DAY.........A time of remembering

It is a misty day here with the heat building as the day goes.
I am daydreaming. I woke from night dreaming not sure which was real....the dream or the reality I encountered on waking. I was on a magical journey in my dream. Sometimes, dreams can highlight concern about world events but this was not the case.

In my dream I stood on a beautiful shore which reminded me of a place I visited in Ireland about 10 years ago. I was unable to see very far but knew that I was anticipating something wonderful. I did not second guess that possibility. I just waited with a sense of adventure and excitement to see what it was about.

One theory in dreaming is that a dream of adventure is a call to exploration of the unconscious. My dream's intent bacame clearer to me as a beautiful self powered boat appeared for me and hovered in the water.

I stepped on with ease. I believed in the dream that I was being taken through the Mists of Avalon. All I lacked was Arthur! This, it seems, was a self propelled trip!

The hero or heroine in dreams is said to symbolize a person's unconscious self. His goal is to find the treasure, the princess, the ring, the elixir of life, the golden fleece, and so on. These are all metaphors for one's true feelings and unique potential as in the pearl that is one's self.

You are invited to share your dream thoughts here. What are your dreams....sleeping or waking...Please share anything that you feel has been a learning for you. What were your dream struggles? What secret magical powers and potential did you learn about yourself?
What has inspired you in dreams...past or present?

That is my kind of dream and so beautifully written, Linda! It's great that you recalled it so vividly. I remember some, and some leave me upon waking.

Even when I sometimes take a sleeping pill, I still have at least one water dream a night. I'm stuck in some emotional aspect of the subconscious---there's usually flooding or overflowing water. Once---in my entire life---I had an amazingly vivid lucid dream and I was flying----over a RIVER! I wrote it down in detail and have since had one dream where I flew for a very short time, but nothing like the one flying over the river. It was phenomenal and interestingly, while I was heavily into studying about dreams.

My favorite dream book is "The Encyclopedia of Dreams" by Rosemary Ellen Guiley (which you can find used at Amazon for a penny!) I have maybe a dozen books on dream interpretation and I always go back to this little paperback and to "The Interpretation of Dreams" by the master, Freud.

You may already know about this site, but there's an amazingly accurate dream dicitonary online which I use often at:
http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/

This is a wonderful post. Thank you for sharing with us inside your head. Tee-Hee. Blessings from Louisiana---

What a lovely dream! I usually don't recall my dreams, although I have had one recurring dream in which I am lost, usually trying to find my way to an appointment for which I'll be late and which will cause me to lose something valuable. I always encounter the same people, childhood friends who try to direct me. I remain lost and filled with dread.

I'll trade you for the Mists of Avalon! ;-)

Much thanks for the thoughtful post and the kind words. I can relate to the flying OVER the river. I have had dreams in which I mentally built a bridge to cross over the water! We could haqve fun with that one!

Karen
Thanks for stopping by . I always smile to see you here. Alas, I have had those kind of dreams. The worse I think of that variety was when no matter what I did I was going to do something wrong and miss something important!!

Cabbage. Cabbage inspires my dreams, and they are foggy mysteries.

I like your dream. IF I give up cabbage will I dream sweet journeys?

In a recurring dream I have a rented room. It's a sparce, simply furnished room. There are windows on one wall the width of the wall but very high up which only shows me the sky. I can lie on the bed and see the sky, the stars and sometimes the moon. I first dreamt of renting the room back in the 60s. It is in a remote corner of a house, with no other tenants around and no other buildings near by. I go there whenever I need to be away from things and by myself. Sometimes I forget about it and don't go there for a decade or so. But it is always there, available to me. strangely. The last time I dreamt of it was a few weeks ago. I was running away from an eerie, weird audition I didn't want to take. I was being pursued by the people and their dog. I didn't know where to go or what to do. Then I rememberd the room. I didn't go there but it ws enough to remember it. So then I woke up.

Hello lovely Linda,
Actually many of my dreams are a
collage of the day's events and
portions of the News. Normally
I try to avoid watching the News
after dinner.
In my latest dream, a basketball
player popped out from under my
bed, I became frightened and willed
myself awake. My imagination is
off the charts.

Right before I pass out (that's not right) --CONK out! I have very pleasant 'hearing' and 'seeing' thoughts about nice, friendly people...and I am with them. The faces change daily--sometimes.

But the next thing I know is kneeling and praying at 5:20 AM. I just do not really dream any more.

Linda S Thanks for your comments, and I am NOT an old man, don't feel old, don't act old, don't know about the visual!
Peace!

oooh your dream was a lovely one...i dream vivid dreams nightly and if i put the effort into really thinking about them in the morning there's always a little message there...my favorite dream was like marion one of flying...not a slow gentle flight but whooshing over the suburbs and city here...and the feeling of that dream was so wonderful...uplifting...i've never forgotten it...

Lovely dream Linda. I loved that book, and could just see you there in those mysts.

I go through periods of vivid dreams and periods of no remembered dreams. Lately I'm in a no dream place. Lately the rain has been like a dream here. It is magical and everything is so lush and green it is as if a giant empty cistern is filling, and I can really feel the ground taking it all in, deep deep into the underground lakes and streams. Tonight I can't sleep so I'm blogging instead of dreaming, and listening to the rain...

Wow, you remember your dreams very well. I usually wake up with a few fragments that slowly disappear.

This was beautifully written and I was completely absorbed by it.

I have a tense relationship with dreams. They seem to grab onto a piece of something in me that won't sleep. It can be mundane or it can be disturbing or odd. I usually look at them to see what has fallen out of my pocket. What I might need to put to bed.

Tashai said...

Wonderful post! I've been day-dreaming of a beautiful big house where I can have my own spacious room set up as an artist/photography studio...and also have the time to work in it. ;)

What a detailed recollection you have. A few years ago, I dreamed my dog, Sophie, killed my daughter's dog, Buddy. Less than a week later, she almost did. I've learned to pay attention to my dreams. I never discount any perceived warning.

Catherine Vibert said...

Ok, you'll laugh. I went back to sleep this morning and had a dream, just because you asked. First the prelim, I just had to end a new friendship with a woman who wanted something more than I could give her. I tried to put her off politely but she refused to receive my hints, so I had to be direct. That was a couple of days ago.

So in the dream, she appeared and I was disturbed, but she had a gift, and she gave it to me, and it was a toilet bowl scrubber! This made us both laugh. And that was the end of the dream.

Lyn said...

What an adventure! I have had dreams of great danger, awakened just before my doom..relieved and happy to be alive..to me that's how it's going to be when I cross over to the other side! Saved!!

My worst nightmare, a recurring one, is the following:

I am in the upstairs part of a house when I suddenly remember that I have forgotten to feed and water the dogs. I am watching them. For who, I don't know. So, I run down long and winding cement stairs. I'm running and running and running, and never seem to get to the dogs. Of course, I am in a state of panic and crying hysterically. I finally reach the door and walk in...but this is where the dream ends and I can't remember what happens next.

I usually wake up crying.

I know it symbolizes some deep seated fear. Yes, dreams are as fascinating and bewildering as the human mind.

Thanks for stopping by.

I am a big day dreamer, always have been. In real life: I am an only child of a single parent, which means I raised my Self, by my Self. I have had the same one husband left over from school days, and we have no children.
In my minds eye:
I have an entire alternate family of parents and sibling, and now that I am older I am collecting an imaginary set of children.

I have not ever dreamed of my own parents, nor the same one love of 26 years.

I did however have a series of dreams a while back of a old white house tucked away in a forgotten part of my neighborhood. Looking to buy the house and resurrect the old 'hood. I felt a presence. A big stomping, earth-trembling-wall-rattling-screen-door-squeaking...big, I mean huge, gigantic-floor-to-ceiling-angry-unsatisfied-mean-feed-me-deal-with-me-now..BABY! ..soggy diaper and all. Phew, it was scary. I had to pacify 'it' by tell 'it' that I would be back, and the every thing will be taken care of. And, then I ran. That big baby was being fed off it's own tears, getting bigger and angrier over the years of neglect. Was I that baby?..Was I the mother neglecting her baby in waiting..? Yikes!

P.S. Linda you are so very cleaver.

Wonderful comment. I love the little messages also. Sometimes those messages are repeated for me. I believe my subconsious thinks I should "get it" quicker than I do. I have had dreams in which I was directed to symbols complete with written symbols!....You know...just in case I did not get it the first time.

Nice comment. I love the way you write!. I love listening to the rain, walking in the rain and sitting near a window looking out at the rain. I particularly I love a driving rain....Sometimes I pretend I am living in England where I have understood it may rain a good bit

It must have been a beautiful dream, the way you write about it. I do dream interpreatations with my clients.
Dreams are not only about the unconsious though, they can be a guide or solution what one needs to do in real life. The boat you were dreaming about is your "forte" or strength in a particular area.

Hi Linda,

Hello Linda,

It was a delight to read your text about your beautiful dream. This is a very thought provoking subject.

My own dreams at night are usually pretty quirky. :) I guess they are a mixture of things that I have experienced and impressions from everywhere.

My dreams (often prettty quirky) usually take place in the nature and people I know now and people I knew a long time ago are often part of them. There are often various animals in my dreams as well, like small birds, goats and hares by some reason. :)

Linda,
My dreams are never historical. I am not sure why. Some times they are about the dead, but in these dreams the people haven't died yet. So it is interesting to read about dreams of someone in King Arthur's Court.
I remember my dreams mostly in the morning when I wake up and go back to sleep. The best ones are where I dream that I can fly and I have to concentrate a certain way and I am flying. It's a marvelous dream because I don't quite believe it but again and again I prove that it is true.
Then there are the dreams where things are about to go out of control. It is "everything was alright until" over and over again.
I love to sleep. I don't always love to dream.

Thank you so much for sharing your dream. Really special and such a important part of our life.
I sometimes hear voices just before I drop of to sleep. Like a room full of people and cannot understand what they are saying, apart from odd words which I mostly always forget.
Once I remembered and the conversation was about someone going down the street with a wheel barrow and having a bad but funny time get their load to another place and these people talking where kindly laughing about it.
Strange hey!
Thank you for visiting my blog, was super lovely to hear from you.

What an enchanting dream Linda. There is a magical quality in the way that you describe it.

My most vivid dream was of the world ending. I was not afraid though, but in total wonder, as I watched the sun descend towards earth....I realised that we walk the earth every day, but rarely do we take time to stop and appreciate its beauty.

Hi Linda, thanks so much for dropping by today, that's a very tough question you asked ! I will try to leave a bit of an answer over at my place for you, but it would almost require pouring out my whole life story ! Not sure how much of that you want to hear... LOL ! It would take all day and all night and then some...

Dreams are magic ! This morning I dreamed I was outside a concert hall, trying to find tickets for sale to get in to a Grateful Dead show, someone near me held up two for sale, but another guy bought them before I could get there... I woke up shortly thereafter with a terrible sense of loss. Oh my, the memories that would have sparked that go back about 20 years... funny thing our minds !

Have a great weekend !

PS Just noticed in your "musical interests" that you like Jackson Browne... he performed in Paris on April 27th, I did a piece about the concert just a couple days later, if you scroll down through the back posts to the end of April you can find some pictures I did at the show... enjoy !

hi linda! thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog yesterday! I would love to have you link with me as I will do today with you....how kind of you to suggest it!

My dreams are often elusive due to meds and I dearly miss them but when I do have one that I remember, often they rock my world deeply...perhaps that is my psyche waking me up from my waking dream and saying "look!" ....as there is not much I can do about it, I need to learn acceptance, that, in itself, is a task of some reluctance to dance with...however, the message is always seemingly clear as what other choice do any of us have?

many blessings...

i used to dream almost every night before my spouse's passing. Now, i seem to have lost even the ability to dream. if i do, it's not like before-where it's quite vivid and even dramatic and coloured. now, it seems to be bits and pieces of broken jig saw puzzles, most of the vital parts lost, that it.

What do you think this may mean?

Nice dream. I ended up in the Congo (for real) because I had a dream of two women who were yelling at me to come over and help. Then in reality I received a $10,000 grant to go to the Congo. I met there a 9 year old girl who had been raped by soldiers and did a story on her. I am in the midst of publishing that story now in multimedia. Her name is Belice. Come see her on my blog.
